BECA FICMA/WWF:
In Latin America, turtles are in danger of extinction or in danger alert, specifically in Mexico.
Elías Moisés, a 28 year old blind man, from Coatzacoalcos in the Mexican state of Veracruz, has spent 13 years of his life taking care of turtles and rescuing them. Currently he has 53 specimens.
The mission of Elías is to raise awareness, protect the turtles and the most important, to reintegrate them into nature, avoiding to be hunted and used. The main goal of the turtle guardians is to have a place where people can go and interact with each of the turtles, teaching them how to preserve these specimens.
